"We cannot always build the future
for our youth, But we can build our youth for the future" Franklin D. Roosevelt |
The WHS Special Education Department
presently has 25 employees providing excellent services to our 125
students. Services provided include Resource classrooms,
Inclusion services, Transition Program, Vocational Learning Center,
Exceptional Learning Center. Exceptional Child Residential Program, and
an Extended School Year. We offer three pathways to a diploma:
Inclusion Services: Approximately half of the students in our program receive inclusion support. The inclusion teachers and educational technicians provide inclusion services in the regular classrooms. They work closely with the regular education teachers to provide the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for our students. Transition Program: Three transition specialists assist students in preparing for a productive future by promoting movement from high school to post secondary activities through individual planning. Vocational Learning Center: Our VLC classroom provides academic lessons and life skills for our more challenged students. Exceptional Learning Center: Our ELC classroom offers a temporary setting for students with attendance and behavior difficulties. Exceptional Child Residential Program: Our ERC Program assists dormitory students in developing areas of academic subjects, hygiene, independent living skills, basic life skills, and social skills. Extended School Year: Our ESY services assist students showing regression during holidays and vacations. |
